CNG Tank Truck

Ping An designed CNG and cryogenic LNG transportation vehicles, consisting of storage tanks, semi-trailers and tractors. Advanced insulation technologies are adopted to ensure low-temperature storage. The vehicles are equipped with dual safety valves, flame arresters, emergency shut-off devices and other safety systems, and deliver media through pressure transfer. Economical and flexible, they can supply gas to areas not covered by pipeline networks.

The core function of a CNG tank trailer is to compress natural gas to 20–25 MPa (approximately 200–250 atmospheres) by a compressor at the gas source station, and store it in sealed special seamless cylinder bundles in high-pressure gaseous form for long-distance, safe and stable transportation.

Its key features include high-pressure safety, flexible adaptability and environmental economy. Compared with pipeline transportation, it requires no fixed pipeline network and can quickly respond to gas supply demands in different regions. Compared with LNG tankers (cryogenic liquid transportation), it features simpler equipment structure and lower operating costs, making it suitable for short-distance and small-batch gas supply.

In addition, the transported medium has the same composition as pipeline natural gas, mainly methane, which burns cleanly with much lower exhaust emissions than traditional fuel-powered transportation equipment.

As the load-bearing foundation of the whole vehicle, a tri-axle or four-axle heavy-duty semi-trailer chassis is adopted, featuring high-strength load capacity and excellent driving stability, suitable for highway transportation under various road conditions.The chassis is standard equipped with a static conductive grounding strip, spark arrestor and emergency shut-off device. The static conductive strip can discharge static electricity generated during driving in real time to avoid potential hazards caused by static accumulation; the spark arrestor prevents sparks from the exhaust pipe, eliminating fire risks at the source.For some tankers, the chassis fuel system has two options: diesel fuel or self-contained CNG fuel. The on-board CNG fuel tank is also a high-pressure gas vessel and must comply with corresponding safety standards.

It adopts a high-strength steel frame, which is mainly used to fix the entire row of high-pressure gas cylinders. The frame is designed to be impact-resistant and rollover-proof, which can effectively protect the cylinders from external damage during vehicle running, braking or minor collisions, ensuring the overall stability of the cylinder bundle.The design and manufacture of the frame comply with relevant safety requirements for transportable pressure vessels. It forms a firm and permanent connection with the cylinders and the chassis, guaranteeing structural safety during transportation.

As the storage carrier for natural gas and the core component of the CNG tank trailer, seamless steel cylinders made of high-strength alloy steel (such as 4130X) are adopted without welded joints, effectively enhancing high-pressure resistance. A common configuration consists of 8 to 12 large seamless long-tube cylinders with large individual volume. The total water volume of the whole vehicle is about 2500–4500L, with a gas storage capacity of up to 5000–9000Nm³ under standard conditions.

The design and manufacturing of cylinders are subject to strict standard controls. By material, they can be classified into all-metal cylinders and metal-lined fiber-wrapped cylinders. The working pressure is 20MPa, the test pressure reaches 30MPa, and the designed service life is 15 to 20 years. Regular inspections are required during this period to ensure that their pressure-bearing performance meets safety requirements. Cylinders are equipped with outlets at both ends, connecting the front safety cabinet and the rear operation cabinet to realize gas inflow, outflow and control.
